Job Description

Labcorp is looking for an ACVP certified Veterinary Pathologist with at least 5 years of toxicologic pathology experience to provide onsite support in Greenfield, IN

Job Duties:

  • Independently perform the complex microscopic evaluation and interpretation of tissue sections from animals exposed to test materials and correlate these findings with necropsy, organ weight and clinical pathology findings.
  • Author comprehensive pathology narrative reports of microscopic, gross, and clinical pathology findings, while meeting report deadlines.
  • Provide experienced pathology support in the interpretation of chemical or drug-related toxicology findings in safety studies.
  • Supervise necropsies and provide scientific guidance to necropsy technicians to ensure accuracy and compliance with protocols and SOPs.
  • Communicate the significance of pathologic findings to study directors, clients and other individuals.
  • Serve as a mentor to junior or non-board certified pathologists for individual lesions or study findings to aid in interpretation and to formulate conclusions.
  • Participate in histopathology consultations and peer reviews with other pathologists
  • Attend pre-initiation and/or pre-necropsy meetings.
  • Perform internal peer reviews of in-house toxicology reports that include interpretations of Anatomic Pathology data.
  • Initiate or participate in special projects or develop an area of expertise on an as needed basis.
  • Take photomicrographs of tissues/lesions as directed by protocol or client request for inclusion in reports, consultations and/or submission to regulatory agencies.
  • Provide diagnostic support to the Department of Laboratory Animal Medicine in their disease surveillance programs.
  • Participate in process improvement projects.
  • Attend scientific meetings and continuing education seminars.
  • Author scientific manuscripts and give presentations.
  • After hours and weekend work on site as required or defined by the duty roster.

Experience Required:

  • ACVP certification and at least 5 years experience in toxicologic pathology or 8 years post board certification or a combination thereof. For non-board certified individuals, more than 10 years experience in toxicologic pathology.
  • Ability to evaluate tissue sections from animals, including the interpretation of histomorphologic findings for each tissue of every animal, as well as selected special stains and procedures.
  • Ability to formulate pathology tables by direct entry of all histomorphologic findings into a computerized data collection system.
  • Ability to conduct necropsies and recognize, describe and interpret findings at necropsy.
  • Ability to provide scientific guidance and feedback to histology technicians to correct artifacts and prevent reoccurrence of technical problems, and to ensure accuracy and compliance with protocols, SOPs and client expectations of quality histotechnology.

Education/Qualifications Required:

  • DVM/VMD degree or equivalent.
  • Formal pathology residency or graduate studies (i.e. MS, PhD) at an institution in which the training of veterinary pathologists is a primary function.
  • Board certified by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, preferred. Alternatively, more than 10 years experience in toxicologic pathology with a PhD in pathology.
  • DABT certification desirable.
