Position Summary The Corrosion Engineer applies a working knowledge of corrosion fundamentals to provide guidance to the division’s engineering and design activities under the direction of a Program Manager and/or Engineering Manager. The Corrosion Engineer will be required to interact with other Oceaneering personnel, project teammates, suppliers, and the customer to guide engineering, procurement, manufacturing, test and evaluation, and certification efforts to meet customer requirements specific to material selection and corrosion control. Duties And Responsibilities Reviews and approves proposals and engineering conclusions/designs for step-and-touch and corrosion mitigation. Manages and maintains the corrosion control programs, records and diagrams as required by regulations and sound business practice. Participates with Engineering, Operations and Maintenance personnel during the design stage of projects regarding material selection and design to minimize the effects of corrosion. Ensuring compliance with the Company design QA procedures and Company Management System. Prepare designs for grounding and bonding. Provides technical support to assist and guide design and manufacturing engineers with selection of metallic and non-metallic materials and corrosion prevention / preservation methods, including plating, paint, coatings, and cathodic protection. Provides technical support to assist engineers and inspectors in activities related to metallurgy, welding, and corrosion control. Develops appropriate corrosion prevention, monitoring, and control measures for new or existing designs, and documents into a formal Corrosion Prevention and Control Plan for customer approval. Ensures corrosion prevention and control measures are appropriately incorporated into design artifacts, including construction drawings, inspection requirements, procurement specifications, lifecycle maintenance documentation, etc. Develops material test plans to support novel material qualification / certification. Supports project leadership with identification, quantification, and mitigation of corrosion-related risks. Ensures new product designs provide accessibility for inspection for corrosion, and for preservation of specified coatings and coverings. Leads postmortem evaluations of failed in-service parts to understand failure mechanisms and root causes. Identifies, evaluates, and proposes short-term corrective and long-term preventative solutions. Actively participates in project-specific Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and Working Groups (WGs) to ensure corrosion-related requirements and risks are adequately being addressed across teams / groups. Displays excellent technical judgment, attention to detail, and ability to take a holistic approach to system design. Uses emerging technologies to drive innovative solutions to problems. Reviews progress and evaluates results of work accomplished by self and others. Prepares reports and presents results to management and customers. Some travel may be required. Qualifications REQUIRED: BS degree in Engineering, Chemistry or Material Science. Minimum 3-5 years of practical experience in Corrosion Engineering: Selecting and implementing corrosion-resistant materials for seawater service applications. Demonstrated experience in understanding and designing for various corrosion modes, particularly pitting, galvanic, and intergranular. Working knowledge of industry and/or DoD standards and specifications related to materials and processes for corrosion prevention and control. Working knowledge of NDE technology and its proper application as it relates to corrosion prevention, monitoring, and control. Demonstrated experience in supporting design and stress analyses with corrosion estimates / calculations, including the selection of appropriate corrosion allowances. Familiar with different materials, equipment, piping and their damage, corrosion mechanism, and with valid skill and qualification of API 571, 580, NACE Technical expertise in corrosion and electrochemistry. Knowledge of test methodology and equipment used in evaluating environmental resistance of metallic materials. Knowledge of physical metallurgy of metallic materials with emphasis on interactions between alloy composition, processing, microstructure and properties Candidate will have to perform in an ISO-9000 rated company in a rapidly changing and demanding atmosphere. US citizen must be able to obtain DoD security clearance. Able to generate a team approach to problem solving and a good communicator, both written and verbal.
