Rang Healthcare is seeking a travel Medical Lab Technician for a travel job in Paris, Illinois.

Position Title: Medical Lab Technician (MLT)
Location: Paris, IL
Assignment Length: 26 Weeks
Guaranteed Hours: 40 Hours/Week
Shift Information: Night Shift — Four 10-hour shifts per week (includes rotating weekends and holidays)

 

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Medical Director and/or Laboratory Manager, the Medical Lab Technician performs moderate to high-complexity laboratory testing. This role also involves problem-solving, teaching, systems control, and limited supervisory responsibilities. The MLT will collect arterial, venous, and capillary blood specimens, perform drug screen collections, basic point-of-care testing, and various clerical duties. Maintaining strong working relationships with patients, families, medical personnel, and inter/intradepartmental staff is essential.

 

Position Requirements

• Associate Degree in Medical Technology (required)
• Phlebotomy skills across diverse patient age groups (preferred)
• Proficiency with typing and computer systems (preferred)
• Working knowledge of medical terminology (preferred)
• National certification (e.g., ASCP) is highly recommended

 

Essential Responsibilities

• Collects, processes, and stores blood/blood products; maintains transfusion records and releases products to clinical staff
• Performs specimen collection including blood, throat swabs, and body fluids per lab procedures
• Conducts tests for blood cell identification, coagulation, and quality control
• Runs chemical tests on various bodily fluids using lab analyzers
• Performs serological testing to detect pathogens
• Teaches laboratory techniques to students and staff
• Participates in continuing education and leads in-service presentations
• Executes quality control testing as scheduled, documenting results in the Hospital Information System (H.I.S.)
• Attends staff meetings and supports department goals
• Maintains compliance with lab, hospital, and safety protocols
• Works with all patient populations (neonates to geriatrics); may assist in phlebotomy training for healthcare students
